The Understory

Micro-Film about a shared silence between two people who chose to stay, long before they ever chose to speak.

In the quiet of the pines, the world stops pushing. Sometimes, the most sincere connection doesn’t need a name—just a witness to the fact that you’re still in the frame.

Concept

This micro-film delivers a complete narrative arc within a condensed frame, functioning as part of a larger story triptych. Inspired by the atmosphere of Train Dreams, the piece utilizes recurring characters from my previous work to invite deeper interpretation and build a persistent cinematic world.

Execution

The project leverages Kling 3.0 for both motion and native audio dialogue, ensuring a seamless performance. The workflow began with generating base images via Nano Banana Pro, which were then animated in Kling. To maintain shot-to-shot consistency, I utilized dedicated character sheets to ground the visual identity of the cast.

Director’s Note

While The Understory invites its own interpretation, the paths that led to this encounter are carved in the companion films ROSA and DRIFT. Watching them offers a unique perspective on the gravity of this moment.
